The Information We Collect and How We Use It
Personally Identifiable Information
Personally identifiable information is information that can be used to identify you as an individual, such as you first and last name, your phone number, and your email address. We use this information to respond to requests, provide information about Harboring Hearts, and expand our organization.
We may use your personally identifiable information to contact you individually or as part of a Harboring Hearts mailing list. If you no longer wish to be contacted by us you can reach us using the information at the bottom of this page. You can also contact us if you want us to correct or delete your personally identifiable information.
Aggregated information is non-personal information about website visitors, such as the number of people who visit a website, what parts of the website they visit, and their IP addresses. We may collect this aggregated information from all individuals who visit the Harboring Hearts website. We may also use aggregated information internally and share aggregated information with third parties to provide services to our users, expand our organization, and improve our website. We do not use this information to identify or contact you.
If you register to use the Harboring Hearts website, we collect a limited amount of personally identifiable information from you, such as your e-mail address and password. Registering allows you to make the most of Harboring Hearts’ personalized features and content, build a public or private profile, create and join groups, and participate in online discussions. To help protect your privacy, we recommend that when registering you create a username for your participation on the website that does not contain your full name and choose a strong password that others cannot easily guess.
Transfer of Personally Identifiable Information
Harboring Hearts will not rent, sell, or share personally identifiable information about you to third parties without your consent except under the following limited circumstances:
We may provide personally identifiable information to third parties to comply with valid legal requirements such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order. If we are legally compelled to disclose your personally identifiable information to a third party, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you unless doing so would violate the law or court order or unless otherwise instructed by law enforcement.
We may provide personally identifiable information to third parties if website administrators perceive a physical threat to you or others. We may also disclose such information if we believe it reasonably necessary to investigate or prevent harm, fraud, abuse, a violation of our terms or conditions of use, or other illegal conduct.
We may provide personally identifiable information to service providers with whom we have business relationships. For example, we may contract with third parties to provide certain services including data management, consulting, web hosting, and web development. We provide these third parties with only the information necessary for them to perform the particular services for which we have engaged them. We choose providers whom we believe maintain reasonable security procedures appropriate to the nature of the information involved in order to protect that information from unauthorized access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure.
Children Under 13
In light of growing concerns over children’s online privacy, Harboring Hearts does not knowingly collect information from visitors under the age of 13. Our website is neither developed for nor directed at children.
Our website contains links to webpages that are not operated by Harboring Hearts. We also use outside websites and internet services to help us communicate with people, organize events, and collect donations. For example, we use Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter to communicate with people who may be interested in Harboring Hearts; and NYCharities.org and GoodSearch to help us collect donations. We are not responsible for the privacy policies and practices of external websites.
We take care to prevent the loss, misuse, and alteration of user and customer data under our control. Nonetheless, users should be aware that data security technology is constantly evolving. As such, although we strive to protect information saved to or transmitted through Harboring Hearts, we cannot and do not guarantee that no loss, misuse, or alteration of information you provide to or transmit through this website will occur. You use Harboring Heart’s website at your own risk. We are not responsible for the circumvention of privacy settings or security measures contained on this website.
Updating Personally Identifiable Information
When you notify us of an error or change in your personally identifiable information, we make good faith efforts to correct or delete such data at your request, unless otherwise required by law or for legitimate business purposes. We ask individual users to identify themselves before processing such requests. We may decline to process requests that require a disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical.
Please contact us with any questions, comments, or requests.
