Meet Aidan!
On February 3, 2025, Baby Aidan was born via C-section and immediately rushed to the NICU after showing signs of distress. Initially thought to be meconium aspiration, doctors soon discovered he had Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries (D-TGA), a critical congenital heart defect undetected during pregnancy.
Within days, Aidan underwent a Balloon Atrial Septostomy, followed by open-heart surgery in February. The procedure lasted eight hours, and though recovery was difficult—requiring heavy sedation, oxygen support, and days with his chest left open—Aidan fought bravely. Gradually, his condition improved, and by the end of February, he was breathing, feeding, and thriving on his own.
After 36 days in the hospital, Aidan was discharged on March 12 and has since been home, growing stronger each day. Now three months old, he continues to amaze his family with his resilience. While future procedures may be possible, his parents remain hopeful and grateful for the outstanding care from NYU and the support of Harboring Hearts.
