Meet Jackson!
Jackson is a three-year-old boy who was diagnosed with HLHS, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which occurs when the left side of the heart doesn’t form correctly during pregnancy. It affects normal blood flow to the heart and it is what caused him to undergo a Norwood procedure in July 2020 at birth, and subsequently a Glenn procedure in November 2020 when he was just four months old.
Jackson lives with his mom Katelyn, a single mom that relies on Jackson’s SSI payments as she cannot work due to his health conditions. She needs to be there for him around the clock as his sole caregiver. When Jackson needed a Fontan procedure in June 2024 at the age of 3, they were unsure how much hotel assistance near the hospital that Medicare would cover. Harboring Hearts was able to help Katelyn with six nights of hotel assistance, as well as food, gas, and parking assistance so Katelyn could focus on Jackson and his recovery.
