Meet Jaxx!

When Jaxx was just a month old, his mother Tiffany learned he had Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease. From birth, his bilirubin levels had been dangerously high, and when they failed to return to normal, his gastroenterologist recommended genetic testing. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis, and Tiffany’s heart sank as she heard the prognosis—uncertain about what this would mean for her baby’s future.

At just one month old, Jaxx underwent a Kasai procedure, where surgeons connected his intestine to his liver to help bile drain properly. Tiffany felt a wave of relief that he was getting the treatment he needed. But just two weeks later, that relief was replaced with worry when Jaxx developed an infection and had to be readmitted to the hospital.

By two months old, Jaxx still wasn’t gaining weight, so doctors inserted an NG feeding tube. Finally, he began eating more and gaining strength. Tiffany was overjoyed to bring him home again, cherishing each moment of progress. While he is currently doing better, Jaxx remains on the liver transplant list—at a low priority for now—but the future is still uncertain.

Tiffany is Jaxx’s full-time caregiver, a role that is both a labor of love and a financial challenge, especially as she also cares for her autistic son. Frequent hospital visits made transportation a constant strain. Harboring Hearts stepped in to help with gas costs, ensuring Jaxx could get to and from his appointments without adding extra stress to the family’s plate.

“That help meant so much,” Tiffany shares. “It eased one of my biggest worries and allowed me to focus on what really matters—caring for my boys.”

Jaxx’s journey is still unfolding, but with his mother’s unwavering love and the support of a caring community, he is facing the future with strength and hope.
