Meet Meylin!
For eight long months, Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital became home for Meylin and her family. Admitted in June 2023, she remained there while awaiting a heart transplant. On November 24, 2023, the life-changing surgery finally took place—but complications kept her in the hospital until February 2024. During that time, her mother could not work, and the family relied on the love and support of those around them.
As the weeks went on, Meylin watched other patients go home while she continued to wait. To lift her spirits, Harboring Hearts surprised her with a Hope 4 Hearts package—a Statue of Liberty LEGO set, inspired by what she was studying in school, and a custom apron in her favorite colors to match her love of cooking. The organization also provided food assistance to help ease the burden on her family during their extended stay.
Today, Meylin is thriving. She is keeping up with her classmates through at-home schooling, riding the bike she received for her birthday, and enjoying her newfound ability to run and play outside. This summer, she made the most of every sunny day.
Whenever she returns to the hospital for check-ups, Meylin walks in with a bright smile—her joy and resilience a testament to her strength and the care she received. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that hope and small acts of kindness can help carry a family through even the longest chapters.
